Who are they?

Corel are a Canadian based international software corporation who produce an amazing range graphic design software packages.

What do they do?

Corel are best known for their wide range of graphic design products including CorelDRAW, DESIGNER, PHOTO-PAINT and Paint Shop Pro.

They also produce several other software packages including Home Office, a cheaper alternative to MS Office and the WinZip file archiver.

When did they start?

Corel was founded by Michael Cowpland back in 1985, in Ottawa Canada. Corel is an abbreviation of Cowpland Research Laboratories.

CorelDRAW first edition was released in 1989, and the software has been continuously updated ever since.

They acquired the word processing software WordPerfect in 1996, though not as commons as Microsoft Word which often comes pre-loaded on machines, it is still a very popular package.

Cowpland left in August 2000 and Corel has continued under a board of directors ever since.

In December 2009 it was taken back into private ownership, by Vector Capital.
