Who is HP?
HP stands for Hewlett-Packard, and is one of the world’s leading technology companies specialising in developing and making computers, printers, networking hardware and other related products.
According to many industry reports there is no-one else in the world making and selling as many personal computers as HP.
HP is also the 6th largest software company in the world.
When did they start?
Hewlett-Packard is one of the oldest technology companies in the world and the symbolic founder of Silicon Valley.
The companies roots go all the way back to the era of the Great Depression when William Hewlett and David Packard started the company in a garage in Palo Alto, California near to Stanford University – from which both of them had graduated in 1935.
Focusing mainly on electronic test equipment in the early part of their life, HP moved into the computer market way back in 1966 with the HP 2100 and HP 1000 series of minicomputers, a series that survived for an impressive 20 years.
21st Century evolution
Hewlett-Packard became a major competitor in the PC market after its merger with Compaq in 2002. Since then HP have gone on to develop an enviable reputation for making some of the most coveted laptops and desktops on the market.
