Is Facebook taking over the world wide web?
It seems as though we can do almost anything on Facebook; networking, gaming, dating, marketing, advertising, watching videos, creating powerful campaigns and even create a drink?! Rosie Khdir takes a look at the power of Facebook…
You can poke, read and drink Facebook…
It is only when the ridiculous stories emerge that we stand up and take notice. Well this Facebook drink revelation made me realise how much control can be gained through the site.
Glacéau vitaminwater recently launched a campaign that saw the creation of a Facebook flavour drink, no joke. The new flavour of black cherry-lime is named “Connect” and contains caffeine and 8 key nutrients.
The campaign was launched by the US sector of the company and asked fans of the vitaminwater page to visit their “flavour creator” lab and make their own drink. The winner was Sarah, from Illinois who came up with the flavour “Connect”. The bottled features the Facebook logo and a paragraph relating to Facebook stalking and tagging photos.
Presidential power
Last month Facebookers created an unlikely UK number one and this month they have created a drink flavour…what next I ask you? People are astounded at the power of the internet, but I’m more struck by the power of social networking itself.
The advertising power of this site is very impressive, and this new drink creation proves just that. The most interesting and perhaps important use of Facebook since its creation was during Barack Obama’s run for Presidency.
The Obama’s team cleverly tapped into Facebook’s resources and its young fans by setting up a page for his campaign and regularly updating the info and notes pages. When the world’s governments start creating pages you know it’s a powerful medium. This page has a weekly growth rate of 19.12 per cent, making it the number one Facebook page of 2009; it currently has 7,117,724 supporters.
What next?
Social media sites are expanding by the minute and almost every business (if they know what’s good for them) is trying to get their finger in the Facebook pie.
Every business empire started off small, Richard Branson, the Chairman of Virgin Group started his with a small magazine called “Student” and look where he is now with over 360 companies with a net worth of $17 billion.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook heading for similar success? I mean he already seems to have the drinks market down!
At the rate this site is going it looks set to be the McDonald or Starbucks of the Internet; it’s going to be everywhere you click!
