A brief history of Kaspersky Internet Security
Kaspersky Internet Security
The first version of Kaspersky Internet Security package was released back in 2007 to almost universal acclaim for its malware detection. It was however lacking a clear user interface, parental controls and instant messaging protection found on some competing software.
These problems were addressed with the 2008 version, which had a far more user friendly interface. Parental controls could be organised through categories of inappropriate sites i.e drugs or violence.
The spam filter was also introduced, and the firewall updated to protect against what Eugene Kaspersky himself calls Malware Stage III; the growth of cybercrime for profit, organised by serious criminal syndicates.
Pro-active malware defense
The 2009 version simplified the interface again and added Security Analyser which looks at vulnerable elements of a PC and advises the user what to do, as part of a pro-active method of fighting malware.
The latest 2011 version includes Safe Run Mode for evaluating questionable applications and websites, and proactive protection against malware that isn’t yet classified by comparing it to known malware behaviour.
Kaspersky games mode
There has been a shift away from continual pop-ups towards a quieter, less intrusive program. There’s a new games mode to suspend all interruptions, tools to tune up your PC and extensive protectiono from ID theft.
