Kaspersky Company Guide
Who are Kaspersky?
One of the big names in antivirus software based in Russia.
Specialised antivirus protection
The company focuses on the fight against malware and cybercrime in all its varied forms. Their main products are Kaspersky Antivirus and Kaspersky Internet Security, versions of which they make for PCs, mobiles, ultra-portables and Macs.
They employ 500 highly-qualified specialists, and are one of the leaders in researching, publicising and fighting new malware.
Their central offices are in Moscow, but they have HQs in major cities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region and Japan. They operate in over 100 countries and estimate they provide protection for over 250 million users.
They also run the very useful viruslist blog which features up to the minute updates on the latest threats out there and everything you would ever need to know about viruses.
A brief history
Eugene Kaspersky first became interested in computer viruses in 1989, when his computer at the Moscow Ministry of Defence became infected with the Cascade virus. By 1991 he had written his first program to disinfect them, and by 1997 had set up the Kaspersky Lab company.
In the past 12 years the antivirus market has boomed, and Kaspersky has become a respected household name.
The first version of Internet Security was released in 2007, but Kaspersky quickly established a reputation for providing comprehensive and efficient software, that could handle and adapt to any new malware.
