Short history of Sony
Sony was founded in 1946 under the original name of Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Company) by Masaru Ibkua and Akio Morita.
After a slight setback of the downturn of the Japanese economy after the Second World War, the pair decided to expand the business internationally.
The company’s name was officially changed to Sony Corporation in 1958, due to the fact there was already a company called TTK, but the first Sony branded product, a TR-55 transistor radio, went on sale in 1955.
Sony has now expanded to become a well known global brand. Sony UK was set up in 1968 and now employs around 4,500.
