UK launch for Dell Streak 7 tablet
Dell’s new 7 inch tablet, the Streak 7, was launched in the UK this week. Made of extra-robust, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, the tablet is aimed at users who want their tablet to be made of sterner stuff.
The Streak 7 runs on Android’s 2.2. version (an operating system mainly found on smartphones) and has an 800 x 400 touchscreen. It provides 16Gb of internal storage and supports Flash. Keeping in line with the current tablet trend, it also has two cameras – one 5Mp camera at the back, and another 1.3Mp facing the front, which enables the tablet to be used for video chats.
The Dell Streak 7 tablet is out to buy in the UK now, with prices starting at £299.
Dell building data centres in ten countries
Dell is building data centres in as many as ten countries across the globe, according to the company’s global CEO. Michael Dell told Australian media that Dell were “building data centres in about ten countries around the world.”
This move comes in response to consumer demand for cloud computing, Mr Dell said. “What we’re finding is customers want to take advantage of the economics of the public cloud”, he said, “but they really don’t want a public cloud … what they want is a private, secure cloud that has a level of assurance and security with it.”
The data centres will provide the basis for “platform clouds”, which lets users host and develop applications, as well as “infrastructure clouds”, which lets users access raw computing resources such as data storage space.
Dell launches Spanish-Language laptop
At the end of last week, Dell officially launched what it said was the fist Spanish-language laptop sold in the US. The Dell Inspiron M5030 comes with a keyboard specifically designed for Spanish speakers, including a key for the ñ symbol.
The notebook is aimed at the 50.5 million Hispanics living in the US, according to Dell. “The launch of the laptop stems from Dell’s commitment to listen to customers,” Gerald Zapata of Dell said. “By listening, we realized there was a need to develop a laptop that was 100 percent designed for Spanish speakers, affordable and available in the United States. The concept was to introduce a laptop that meets all of these needs and enables Spanish-speaking families to better communicate and keep in touch with relatives, share information and experience the ultimate in technology.”
