It was in January that Dell last wowed us with a new release for the small business sector and a new line of laptops is heading our way on the 16th March.

The Vostro 3000 features

Dell has unveiled the new Vostro 3000 line which is made up of the Vostro 3300, 3400, 3500 and 3700 with 13in, 14in, 15in and 17in screens respectively.

The models are slimmer than the previous line of Vostros, and are encased in aluminium to make them more robust for the road. They all come with an optical drive, up to 6Gb of memory, Windows 7 Professional and are backed by 24/7 technical support.

Despite their slim-downed size you can still have a back-lit keyboard as an option, ExpressCard slot, FireWire, new ports including a combo eSata/USB and a HDMI port on the 3500 and 3700.

As for graphics, the 3700 comes with the best option of a 1Gb NVIDIA option while the other three machines support a 512Mb NVIDIA 310M.

This new line also comes with Intel Core i3 processors as standard, but the 3500 can be upgraded to a Core i5 chip. The 3700 has Core i7 processor capabilities making it Dell’s first quad-core system for small enterprises.

A look at the Vostro 3000 models

Each model has its perks. The Vostro 3300 is designed to be the most portable of the bunch, weighing in at just 2kg and coming equiped with a four cell battery and 3G broadband option.

The Vostro 3400 is the laptop with the power; it can support 8 hours of mobile working and has the option of a nine cell battery.

The 3500 model can also have a 3G module but has a six cell battery and will be introduced with touch-screen capabilities in April.

The Vostro 3700 is designed to give a high-end performance, similar to that of a desktop, but with more portability and at a lower cost than normal desktop replacement portables.

Now for the cherry on top. Even though these machines have had an upgrade and still look extremely stylish, Dell has not hiked up the price for their efforts.

Prices range from £399 for the Vostro 3300 up to a respectable £579 for the Vostro 3700 – these figures are for the basic packages.

The Vostro 3000 line is currently on sale in the US and will be available for purchase in the UK on 16th March 2010. For more information visit the Dell website.
