Google Street View gives you the best of the British Isles

Have you ever wondered what it was like to stand in front of the mysterious rocks at Stonehenge in Wiltshire or admire the beautiful scenery on the Menai Strait in North Wales? Well now you can visit them both, within five minutes of each other!

Google has now added 19 of the UK’s most famous landmarks and National Trust sites to its index on Google Street View, allowing users to expand their horizons; well, their virtual ones anyway.

This new expansion includes several castles and stately homes as well as sites such as the Avebury Stones. It also means that fans of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice can nose around Mr. Darcy’s grand home of Pemberley – or rather Lyme Hall at Lyme Park (above) – while sitting at their computers!

In order to compile this collection of images into a life-like walk through these historic locations, a team of Street View cyclists had to pedal over 125 miles to capture a 360 degree view of each place.

Google will continue to add more National Trust sites and also some UNESCO World Heritage Site’s to the mapping service throughout 2010, including The Giants Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
