Intel discusses $7.7 billion acquisition of McAfee with EU
McAfee could be about to join Intel, the world’s largest chipmaker, in a $7.7 billion deal that will see McAfee fall under the umbrella of one the largest technology companies on the planet.
McAfee and Intel will have to convince the European Union’s competition commission first, that the joining of two such significant global players will not amount to an unfair competitive advantage.
Possible areas of concern could be the embedding of McAfee antivirus software in the actual microprocessors manufactured by Intel. However both McAfee and Intel have stated that they are confident that the deal will go ahead.
