McAfee launches program to ensure safety in the cloud
Rosie Khdir reports on McAfee’s Cloud Secure, a new program that looks to provide users with additional security and peace of mind when using cloud computing.
McAfee has introduced a new program for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers to add extra security to their cloud deployments by combining vulnerability scanning and security certification for cloud infrastructures
According to McAfee, this new program is being released to help users regain confidence in cloud deployments, after it was revealed by IDC that a majority of users list security as their main concern.
“SaaS vendors have a difficult time convincing prospects that their services are secure and safe. However, McAfee’s security products and hosted services expertise are well positioned to help SaaS vendors with security problems and customer doubts,” said Christian Christiansen, vice president of security products and services for IDC. “Through certification and automation, McAfee can enable SaaS growth by pro-actively addressing customer concerns.”
The security certification service will see cloud vendors who pass a daily scan consisiting of audits, remediations of vunerabilites and reprots on their security status, receive a “McAfee SECURE” trustmark. This mark from McAfee, used on more than 80,000 websites worldwide, gives users the confidence when doing business with a McAfee customer.
Marc Olesen, senior vice president and general manager, McAfee Software-as-a-Service said:
“McAfee Cloud Secure is our first step toward proactive and comprehensive security certifications and tools for the cloud. McAfee is uniquely positioned to address security for the cloud given our technology, reputation and Cloud expertise. With the McAfee Cloud Secure program, we are adding peace of mind for those with cloud deployments, helping end users more easily evaluate and select a safe and secure vendor.”
