Apple launch updates Lion operating system
The updated lion server boasts over 250 new features, is now available in UK stores. Apple are revolutionising the way new operating systems are being distributed to the public, it is of course available to download, but some of us have learnt not to trust software downloads, if you have a data cap on your home broadband you may also find it rather costly. The updated Lion OS is also available on USB, a great mode of data transfer, reducing packaging and after installing you get a cool USB with a lion on it. The third option for installation is only really viable to those of you with Macbooks, you can take your computer into your local Apple store and use their Wi-Fi for the installation, if you are a bit hesitant about the update you could get one of the staff to do it for you.
We won’t cover the long list of new features on Apple’s Lion X OS; we were most impressed by the Airdrop and Mail applications. On an iMac you can really make the most of your wide screen with Apple’s email service, you get a large view of your previous messages with priority offered to contacts that you respond to, as well as a function that hides redundant messages. This is a really elegant and intuitive way to email and was really easy to pick up quickly.
The Airdrop function is a way to trade data with other Mac users without internet connection or having to setup a network. Your computer will automatically scan around for other Macs within a 30 foot vicinity and you can drag and drop programmes and they will go straight to the desired person’s download folder.
