HP’s new green desktops and Dr Dre adds some beats to a touchsmart
HP has unveiled new environmentally friendly PCs, as part of the tech industry move towards greener, energy efficient technology.
The new HP All-in-one 200t is ENERGY STAR® qualified and scored silver in the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT®). It also has a mercury-free, white light-emitting diode (WLED) 21.5-inch display.
The 200t also has some components free of Brominated Flame Retardants (BFR) and PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC), both of which are major pollutants.
“These new offerings consume less energy and are proof of our commitment to reducing waste in the design, manufacturing, packaging and transportation of our products,” said Anneliese Olson, director, Worldwide Product Marketing, Desktop PCs, HP.
The HP Compaq 6005 Pro Ultra Slim desktop (USDT) is a new greener and smaller desktop.
Roughly 26cm high and 7cm wide it can be connected to the back of a display using an optional HP Integrated Work Center.
The HP Compaq 6005 Pro USDT is designed for business and education, and includes ten USBs for extra capability.
HP says this is its second business PC and the first AMD PC in the industry to be totally BFR/PVC free, and it has an 87 per cent efficient power supply.
There’s also been an update to the HP TouchSmart 600 now comes with Intel Core i5 and i3 options and 23-inch widescreen.
More bizarrely Dr Dre has been involved too, and the TouchSmart 600 comes with Beats Audio, which according to the press release is “engineered to reproduce the sound quality found in music studios,” and has “emerged from close collaboration between legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine, and HP engineers.”
