Golla technology accessories combine functionality and fashion
Among the shiny tech gadges on display at last week’s Gadget Show Live in Birmingham, there was a stall that caught our attention because it offered something ever so slightly different. The Finnish design company Golla specialise in manufacturing protective, super-hip bags for mobile devices.
Golla was formed in 1994 in Helsinki by the Kähkönen brothers Petri and Olli. The two started out designing and producing modern furniture, but after Petri took over the company by himself around the turn of the century, Golla shifted its focus towards providing the increasing number of mobile users with protective cases that put their mind at ease but didn’t look like armoured chunks of hardware.
Golla aims to cater to the ‘Generation Mobile’s needs – people own more mobile computing devices than ever before, and they want to look good while they’re using them. This is now made a lot easier – the Golla 2011 collection includes bags and covers for the iPhone, the iPad, netbooks and laptops as well as cameras and mp3 players.
The cases and sleeves are colourful but not zany for the sake of it – nobody wants to walk down the road advertising they’re carrying a valuable device, but they don’t want to look like they’re carrying a futuristic briefcase, either.
