Tablet Wars: Endgame

These may be the final days of the Tablet Wars. With the rumour mill beginning to stir for the iPad 3’s release the internet is now also buzzing over an armistice for the great Tablet War of 2010-2011. Digitimes reported late last week that some of the major firms grasping for a lead in the Tablet industry plan to withdraw in 2012. These brands include Dell, HP, Acer and Asus. We’ve seen plenty of impressive tablets from these companies trying to scale the bastion of Apple but when it comes down to it, the old adages are the truest ‘Content is King’.

Tablet market share is highly contested, although the iPad has maintained a pretty much unshakably firm foothold since its debut. Almost every hardware brand of note has unveiled some form of tablet, but unfortunately most failed to undercut their biggest competitor in price – not counting of course the mammoth fail that led to HP’s fire sale with their 7inch TouchPad.

The lengths some of the big brands went to to get a piece of the tablet market made for some impressive developments in mobile technology – so ultimately the Tablet Wars were not fought in vain.
Updates to mobile software has lead to the betterment of our mobile phones throwing out 4G way ahead of its time, and naturally touchscreen technology has jumped ahead in leaps and bounds to keep us spending happy.

Ultimately the triumphant two of the Tablet Wars were Apple and Amazon. There’s no real explanation necessary for Apple’s success, the iPad has always been the tablet of choice. Despite an ongoing and kinda funny series of lawsuits with Samsung the desirability and status that an iPad offers can’t be topped.

This year’s dark horse, the Amazon Fire, offered substance at a price only topped by HP in its darkest hours. With an impressive online library already seen through the standard Kindle, and basic specs found on other tablets costing five times as much – it’s no wonder low budget consumers rallied to Amazon.
