Samsung hoover robot driven by Galaxy Tab

Some find it therapeutic, most of us find it a chore – hoovering is a task that divides the masses. Now Samsung has presented us with an app that lets you control its new NaviBot vacuum cleaner (sounds like Robocop’s cute and harmless little brother) via your smart phone or tablet.

The NaviBot’s in-built camera sends its images to your smartphone/tablet – for example, the Samsung Galaxy Tab – along with whatever sounds it picks up, so you can watch your room being hoovered from, say, the kitchen. Exciting, right?

The fact that it can record what’s going on in the room it’s in, means that it can act as a kind of housesitter as well. Unless your house has more than one floor, that is – because for all its smartness, the Samsung NaviBot isn’t able to climb stairs and can get trapped by obstacles such as chairs.

It performs better when actually hoovering. It’s fairly quiet, and it records images of the ceiling to check which area of the room it has already cleaned.
