Samsung starts shipping wafer-thin Series 9 laptop
Thinner, lighter, slicker – the Samsung Series 9 laptop already made computing fans drool when displayed at the international Consumer Electronics Week in New York City at the beginning of the year, and yesterday, it hit US shelves.
Considering its skinny appearance, this bad boy is deceptively powerful. It’s got a Intel Core i5-2537 dual-core processor as well as 128Gb SSD, which will make for headspinningly quick performance. To protect its bird-like skeleton, the Samsung Series 9 laptop’s body is made from duralumin (which once was used to build airship frames).
For this combination of cooler-than-Ice-T design, maximum skinniness and impressive power and speed, you would expect a fairly high price – and you’d be right. The cheapest model is yours for $1,649, and the UK price is rumoured to be around the £1,400 mark. It does look and feel great, but whether it’s worth the price we’ll only know in a couple of weeks’ time.
Like its main competitor, the Macbook Air, the Series 9 will come in an 11 inch as well as a 13.3 inch model.
The release date for the Samsung Sereis 9 laptop is estimated to be around mid-April.
