Toshiba keeps you secure with Wipe technology for self-encrypting hard drives
Rosie Khdir reports on Toshiba’s innovative new product release, a hard drive that can automatically clear the data stored inside it, thanks to the new Wipe technology.
Toshiba has just announced its latest technology development, called Wipe, which has been developed for Toshiba Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) models.
Wipe is the first of its kind in the world and is designed to prevent sensitive user information from being stolen off borrowed or leased devices. It has a special security capability that allows sensitive user data to be securely erased when a system is powered-down.
This unique technology was created to go hand-in-hand with Toshiba’s Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) hard disk drives, the latest of which was announced in July this year.
Toshiba said in a press release:
“Designed to the Trusted Computing Group “Opal” Specification, Toshiba’s SED models provide advanced access security and on-board encryption for client systems such as notebook computers.”
It is not only notebooks that Wipe can protect, and that need protection more to the point. Copier and Printer systems vendors can now use Toshiba’s Wipe Technology to securely invalidate sensitive document image data by automatically erasing the SED’s internal encryption key.
