"The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is Asus latest foray into the tablet market, and it raises the bar for netbooks in terms of looks, feel and functionality"

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is Asus latest foray into the tablet market, and it’s safe to say that it raises the bar for netbooks in terms of looks, feel and functionality
What we like best
Tablets are often dismissed by the average user as gimmicks – not as powerful as notebooks, but not as convenient and portable as smartphones, either. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer will go a long way to convincing these critics to change their minds.
When you pick it up, you can’t help but be impressed by the way it feels in your hand – light, with a certain grip to it so you won’t drop it by mistake, and nicely rounded and smooth. If you’re in a rush to write down some notes during a meeting or conference, you’ll be able to do that without having to swap hands to avoid your wrist getting tired. The nine hours of battery life (extentable to 16 hours with an extra battery pack) will no doubt come in handy, too.
Getting work done is very easy with the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. It comes with a Polaris Office suite, which lets you use the essential tools you get on any laptop – writing documents, creating spreadsheets and preparing presentations. Its (optional) dockable keyboard station doesn’t add much weight, either, and has a nice strong action to it.
Another impressive feature was the image and video quality – the full HD support means that whether you’re reading your favourite online publication or flicking through a photo gallery, the images are never less than rich and sharp.
What we like least
To be honest, there is next to nothing to fault with the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. It feels good, looks good, and you can connect it to any laptop or PC using Windows 7 and access content you’ve stored there – if you’ve forgotten to transfer a certain file, this is a great function and shows how much Asus thought about people who are working on the go.
The ASUS Eee Pad is no gimmick. It’s a very well-thought out piece of equipment that will make a lot of people’s working lives that much easier. At around £400, it’s no snip, but trust us – it’s worth every pound.
