"The ASUS ET2400 does the important things very well, and manages to look presentable in the process"
Matthias Scherer
The ASUS ET2400 is part of ASUS’ desktop range, and is an all-round type of machine. It combines great processing ability with good entertainment specs and solid design.
What we like best
With its large screen, the ASUS ET2400 lends itself to be used as an entertainment computer, and, thanks to its 1920 x 1080 resolution, it delivers in that respect. HD content looks magnificent, and the sound is very decent, too.
The ET2400 employs the SonicMaster technology, which works towards noise reduction and bass enhancement. Music sounds good even without the use of external speakers, although true aficionados might still want to invest in a more wide-ranging sound system.
Processing is an area where the ET2400 excels: it is equipped with a Sandy Bridge i7 processor, which, combined with the generous amount of RAM (up to 8 Gb) makes for very fluid computing.
The desktop also looks very sharp. At the front, it rests on two short feet that are integrated into the bezel, while at the back its supported by a more flexible foot. The chassis is kept simple – black glossy plastic – but it does not look simplistic or even cheap.
What we like least
The ASUS ET2400’s touchscreen is nice enough to use, but touchscreens on desktops in general are a bit awkward at the best of times, especially with Windows 7, and might not be to every user’s taste.
There is an above-average amount of bloatware for the user to come to grips with: A trial version of Trend Micro’s security software, and a bunch of entertainment applications that are, franky, superfluous.
The ASUS ET2400 does the important things very well, and manages to look presentable in the process. Little things like an awkward touchscreen (you’re likely to use a mouse anyway) and bloatware can’t distract from the fact that this is a very solid desktop for family households, with an added bonus of being a decent entertainment computer as well.
