"Crucially however there’s support for HD all the way from importing raw footage, to editing it and then authoring it to a Blu-ray disc"

Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 is the latest update to it’s premium consumer video editing suite.
We check out whether Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 can banish some of the ghosts of the often slow and overly complicated X2 version. Lights, camera, roll review.
What we like best
The new hardware acceleration in Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 should make workflow a lot faster with support for NVIDIA CUDA graphics and Intel Core i7 processors.
There has been a much needed overhaul of the interface, from the overly complicated X2 version. The launcher gives you the simple choice between express or advanced edit modes.
While the former will quite happily see you through producing simple video with audio, we recommend getting stuck in with the advanced mode as soon as possible as it offers so many more possibilities.
There’s better file format support in Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 with AVI, FLV, MP3 encode, AC3 5.1, AVCHD, HD MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.
Crucially however there’s support for HD all the way from importing raw footage, to editing it and then authoring it to a Blu-ray disc. You can also export to range of formats including iPhone, iPod and PSP.
What we like least
We really struggled to find fault with Corel’s VideoStudio Pro, although there’s no Mac OS version of course.
Anyone with Cupertino hardware will have to stick with Adobe’s more complicated Premiere Elements. But as a consumer editing suite with an RRP below £75, Corel’s latest seems pretty much top dog for the moment.
Corel Video Studio Pro X3 is a great video editing suite, simple and straightforward to use with intuitive controls, that novices and experienced amateurs can have great fun with.
