"The strong processor for such a small system is remarkable, it makes the system a strong competitor for top office desktop..."
Karim Beerahee
The 960 model of the OptiPlex line is designed for IT professionals, it occupies a mere square foot of desk space, comes fully customisable with a clean professional case and some of the latest technology as default.
There are three incarnations, the desktop, mini tower and small form factor, if you are in to do it yourself construction, the mini tower comes with more custom options available.
What we like best
The strong processor for such a small system is remarkable, it makes the system a strong competitor for top office desktop. For a strong and fast system the 960 is an excellent choice of equipment. For professional use the system is secure, quiet and boasts some of the more up to date technologies available.
The four CPU core makes it possible to use multiple screens which is fast becoming necessary in work places to observe a wealth of information simultaneously.
Dell are systematically become a greener and greener computer provider, the Optiplex line has the highest EPEAT gold standard certificate. These machines run to 90% efficiency which is outstanding for such powerful systems.
What we like least
The standard version of the 960 only comes with 80 Gb memory, with the base price so high you would really expect better, it can be upgraded but at added cost. This may not be such a problem due to external hard drives etc. but with such powerful processing capabilities the upgrade to the memory is really a wise choice.
The 960 is very highly rated as a business PC, getting the most professionally out of this system is easy, it comes with a selection of old and new ports, downgrade rights to earlier operating systems so running some older apps and hardware is not a problem.
The cost does soar if you insist on the latest customisations, but when does it not? With the options available you can take this desktop in whatever direction you desire for professional use and it will serve admirably.
