"Processing text documents, creating spreadsheets and presentations and data analysis should be no hassle with the Dell Vostro 460"
Matthias Scherer
The Dell Vostro 460 is a small, functionable desktop. PC Site takes a look at its capabilities in the Dell Vostro 460 Mini tower review.
What we like best
Considering this is a computer that will most likely be stored underneath a desk, Dell were right not to focus too much on making the Dell Vostro 460 a fashionable device. It’s cased in simple black plastic, and the front features a small slide that reveals the ports – four USB, one USB 3.0 and head- and microphone jacks. Simple and functionable, like it should be.
There are more ports at the back of the unit, inlcuding VGA and HDMI connections and a few more USB ports. Connectability is a strong suit of this desktop, which will please anyone who has worked with external hard drives or dongles and then has to make do with a limited number of available ports.
Both keyboard and mouse have the same businesslike look and feel responsive and light, to enable smooth maneuvrement and data entry.
The integrated Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge processors are the latest in processor technology and more than do a job in terms of performance: processing text documents, creating spreadsheets and presentations and data analysis should be no hassle with the Dell Vostro 460.
What we like least
There is no distinct graphics card installed, so the responsibility to produce good visuals falls on the CPU. This is no major problem for businesses, as users are unlikely to be playing games or be in need of high-quality video playback. For users who need good graphics specs (e.g. for their graphic design team), this might be more of an issue – but none that can’t be fixed by installing their own graphics card by removing the chassis.
This is a good but not great business desktop. Its main selling points are its small dimensions, which will make it fit into smaller offices perfectly, and its business-tailored performance. The 21.5 inch, 190 x 1080 display is nice and wide and has only limited reflection, while the lack of a dedicated graphics card might frustrate some users. On balance, the Dell Vostro 460 Mini Tower is a decent option for businesses – but neither the best nor the cheapest.
