"Whether you choose the brushed metal onyx black or patterned silver pearl aluminium you can guarantee that you’ll be turning heads wherever you both go."
Rosie Khdir
OK so this is not going to be the kind of notebook most people would be able to afford.
However the name, meaning “to fall in love with” in Latin, should tell you that you need to know about the lure of this incredibly gorgeous machine.
What we like best
For a start this is one of the thinnest PCs in the world to date. It is presented in two stylish colours and both have the kind of finish that makes you stop and stare when a top end supercar drives by.
Whether you choose the brushed metal onyx black or patterned silver pearl aluminium you can guarantee that you’ll be turning heads wherever you both go.
The designers at Dell have really exceeded themselves here. The whole chassis is kept to a pure minimalist spec; even those little stickers that normally come plastered over most laptops have been removed and instead you will find them etched (yes I said etched) onto the Adamo’s base.
Open the lid and you will be presented with a very attractive edge-to-edge glass cover over the 13 inch screen and a keypad that is beautifully spaced in tight little lines with scalloped keys; all backlit in a manner that oozes luxury.
Performance wise the Adamo comes with a very good ultralow voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a solid state hard drive (SSD). For all you non-tech geeks, an SSD is a hard drive with no moving parts; this makes them less fragile, quieter and faster than a traditional hard disk.
What we like least
Overall the Adamo performs well enough but this is not a notebook you will be buying simply for performance.
If that is your main priority you will find more for your money elsewhere, including laptops manufactured by Dell.
Paying a minimum of £999 for a notebook with no optical drive seems pretty strange, but as this is aimed at a certain market and it probably won’t bother them too much.
The Dell Adamo marks a milestone in laptop design and is a good solid performer if you don’t have excessive requirements. It will certainly appeal to the wealthy, style-conscious consumers with a taste for the luxurious.

Don’t know your RAM from your elbow? Well PC Site® is here to help you work out which system will be best for your needs.
What do you need it for and how much can you spend?
Sit down, take a deep breath and think about what you really need your new machine for, and how much can you spend as these two will inform your choice.
If you’re going to be using the internet, word processing programs and streaming content of sites like BBC iPlayer then you might just want a small netbook or all-in-one desktop. If you want to play computer games then you’ll need a faster machine with better graphics.
What do I need to know about technology?
RAM stands for Random Access Memory and, generally the more RAM the faster your computer works and the more tasks it can handle at once.
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit and is the tiny heart of your machine. More RAM needs a faster CPU and vice versa, the best on the market being quad core processors.
Hard drive refers to the amount of storage your computer has. Games, photos, videos and big programs all take up a lot of it.
If you want to play games you will need a graphics cards; faster speed (GHz) and more memory (Mb/Gb) means better game play.
What else do I need to budget for?
Most desk top computers don’t come with speakers included, and some don’t even come with a display so budget for a nice flat screen display and some crisp speakers to make the most of your computer.
Then budget for software like Microsoft Office and anti virus protection to keep your computer safe.
