"It feels good to be able to flick through photos on your computer as you would your smartphone, and you can really get involved with Windows 7."
Matthias Scherer
We get physically involved with Dell’s Inspiron One 19 all-in-one desktop, and see whether it can persuade us of the virtues of touchscreen computing.
What we like best
Despite the problems listed below, the touch screen experience isn’t too bad. It feels good to be able to flick through photos on your computer as you would your smartphone, and you can really get involved with Windows 7.
Multitouch has been enabled through a lot of Windows/Microsoft applications, and it’s genuinely useful to be able to flick through document and spreadsheet pages.
All in black, the Inspiron One 19 is a pretty stylish beast, and while the screen is glossy we found it didn’t pick up too many fingerprints.
What we like least
The major gripe is the distinctly underpowered range of components that Dell is offering. We’re not expecting an Alienware Aurora to be crammed into a thin all-in-one form factor, but the components are a bit weak.
The Dell Inspiron One 19 has a slower DDR2 RAM, an Intel Celeron processor and integrated graphics all of which dampen the idea of rapid, intuitive touch computing.
As stylish as the Inspiron One 19 is, it comes with a wired keyboard and mouse as standard. It looks naff to be honest and it would be definitely worth the extra cash for a wireless pair.
The Dell Inspiron One 19 offers a good touch computing experience with a great screen, but feels seriously underpowered.
