"The major attraction of the 8000 desktop is the heightened security; the encrypted hard drive limits read/write of critical files offering greater protection to your secure data."
Karim Beerahee
The Compaq 8000 Elite Series is a spartan range of office designed desktops, harnessing power and efficiency for no nonsense work.
The series comes in three configurations, including the Convertible Minitower which is pretty much a larger version of the Small Form Factor and the Ultra-Slim which comes with slightly downgraded specs to allow for its small stature.
What we like best
The major attraction of the 8000 desktop is the heightened security; the encrypted hard drive limits read/write of critical files offering greater protection to your secure data.
HP has also taken the more environmentally responsible path substituting a lot of pollutant components with more eco-friendly ones. This is part of HP’s plan remove some of the more hazardous components entirely from its products by 2011.
Rather then paying premium for the latest spec and receiving technology which is not entirely necessary nor economically viable, HP offers the choice of a slightly downgraded system that has hightened multitasking capabilities.
With the Convertible Minitower and the Small Form Factor you are able to buy a machine with a quad core but a lesser processor, rather than a dual core with the latest processor. Smart computer shopping isn’t just about buying the most expensive machine you can afford.
The quad core capability connects nicely with the Nvidia Quadro discrete graphics, a superior choice rather than Intel’s Integrated Graphics which only has the benefit of being newer.
What we like least
The Ultra-Slim system is only superior in compactness, spec wise it falls behind the Small Form Factor and Convertible Minitower models. If you require a condensed machine this is the one for you, though it is only half of what the systems are.
The generic design problems that cross the series are the lack of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, both of which many are unable to do without. For operating systems the 8000 Elites run either Windows 7 or Windows XP, you are licensed for only one of these systems to run either your older software well or only the latest up to date programmes.
With the 8000 Elilte Desktop line, the frills have been cut to offer a midrange computer that has high range capabilities. The spartan design hints at the nature of these systems, there is little fancy about them, they do however perform exceptionally well, making peak use of the lowered spec. These systems come together as an alternative to their brother systems the 8100s, offering value and well established performance over the latest spec.
