Product Description

What is red eye and how does it happen?

Red eye effect is the name given to the appearance of red pupils in colour photographs.  It is caused when a photographic flash is situated very close to the camera lens, as is with most compact cameras, and in low lighting.

When a photo is taken the flash occurs too fast for the pupil to close and so the light is reflected back through it and is captured by the camera. The light bounces off the back of the eye and creates the red colour which is due too the blood in the choroid (which nourishes the back of the eye).

How to prevent it?

If you have a separate flash, try to distance it as far as you can from the lens, or point it at an angle so that the light will not penetrate the pupil directly. Some cameras also come with a red eye reduction setting.

How do I fix it?

If you haven’t managed to prevent the red eye effect then do not panic, you will not look like an evil creature in your wedding photos. Serif has a wide range of photo editing software such as PhotoPlus X3 Digital Studio which can help.

The Makeover Studio gives the option of an “Easy Fix” which will apply corrections automatically or you can exercise your editing power manually using the individual sliders.
