What we like best
After the rush of buying and unwrapping a new piece of equipment comes the first slight dent in your enthusiasm: Setting the damn thing up, plugging in all those wires, and somehow not losing your patience and taking a hammer to your new desktop.
The Samsung U300 does its best to circumvent that scenario, and generally keeps things pleasantly simple: there are no monitor or speaker cables, for example, and just one power cable.
The monitor has been designed with the ubiquitous tablets in mind – it is slim, with rounded edges and a white strip running around its circumference. It’s held up by a minimalist kind of kickstand, so you won’t have to make loads of room wherever you decide to put it.There is also a 1.3 MP webcam integrated at the top of the display.
4 Gb RAM, 1Tb hard drive memory and the nVIDIA GeForce G310M graphics card ensure there is plenty to work with in terms of new computer games. Whether strategy games or first-person shooters, games will generally run smoothly and look fantastic on the 20 inch, 1600 x 900 HD/LCD screen.
The Samsung U300 supports multi-touch, which might be a bit awkward for people more used to seeing this techology on a smaller device, but it’s very easy to get the hang of it, and, in any case, the all-in-one PC comes with a good enough keyboard.
What we like least
To use Bluetooth to connect the Samsung U300 PC to the internet, you are required to plug in a Bluetooth dongle – which takes up one of the four USB ports and leaves little scope for other external devices.
If, for example, you wanted to pimp your hard drive storage, you would have to settle for an external hard drive (since you can’t mess with the sealed PC unit and install a bigger hard drive yourself) and take up another USB port. Here, the Samsung U300 has gone for a slick design with smooth lines over user-friendliness. This design might be compromised unless you give the computer a regular clean, since its black finish is prone to attracting dust.
People on the lookout for a new desktop should definitely consider the Samsung U300 all-in-one PC. It combines power with cutting edge design and visuals as well as low power consumption to make for a muscular yet delicate computer. It will let people get on with their work as well as allow kids to enjoy spectacular gaming. A great option for a family computer.
