Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S 11 inch laptop review

Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S is part of Sony’s Y-series which favours the netbook format. We were certainly intrigued about this one, Sony computers are normally angled towards multimedia and entertainment, which could not have easily translated to small portable machines.

What we like best

The Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S has a 16:9 aspect ratio which is normally seen on larger screens but allows for much better visuals on a small scale. The screen for this netbook is complemented by the AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics chipset, which certainly assists the meshing of netbooks and visual entertainment.

Netbooks aren’t built to provide desktop levels of power and memory so the selection of processor and memory are combined with connectivity to make ultimately a highly portable and speedy machine. Sony have accomplished this admirably, The Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S stocks an AMD Dual Core Processor with 1.6 GHz, this processor is backed up by a hefty 320 GB hard drive, so multitasking on a low level is possible with this netbook. The ample storage will also help in the transportation of your media files, which is a Sony feat we’ve seen before.

We’re not suggesting you use this system as a USB stick but for your favourite photos and songs, perhaps some small videos, they can all be seen using the Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S. In true netbook form we’re pleased to see a longlife 6.5 hour battery, which will keep you working through the computer and into a chunk of a day at the office.

What we like least

Our only real complaint has got to be the price tag; in terms of netbooks this outstrips most other models considerably in terms of cost. Granted the specifications of this model are also superior to lower costing netbooks, as you might expect, but nevertheless we’ve always felt netbooks were more for a bit of browsing or light work. For the price of the Sony VAIO VPCYB2M1E/S you could buy a full laptop or new release tablet.
