"It’s hard to knock a laptop that is so affordable and doesn’t really have anything spectacularly wrong with it, but the Toshiba Satellite 670D is not much more than a solid option for a budget family laptop"
Matthias Scherer
The Toshiba Satellite C670D is a 17.3 inch laptop with rather weighty specs, both in terms of actual weight and features. As a desktop replacement, it’s an affordable option, but is it a good one?
What we like best
The Toshiba Satellite C670-110 model’s graphics (which is reviewed here) are taken care of with an AMD Radeon HD chip, which helps make good use of the large, bright display and high resolution and will allow for some moderate gaming (although you might have to turn down the resolution for newer games).
The other benefit of such a large screen is the fact that you will be able to have a fair few documents open at the same time without losing track of proceedings.
Partly thanks to its sheer size, this laptop’s keyboard is very comfortable to use. They’re pleasantly wide, making typos less likely, and have a bouncy, responsive action.
What we like least
The choice of processor made by Toshiba with the Satellite 670D is understandable given the desire to keep the price down, but the AMD Athlon E350 doesn’t compare too well with the current roster of second-generation Intel Core Sandy Bridge CPUs. At 1.6 GHz, you might end up feeling short-changed when you’re trying to run a handful of applications (YouTube, blogging platforms, etc.) simultaneously – although the generous amount of RAM will offset some of that shortfall.
Design-wise, there have been some cutbacks as well: Matte black plastic covers the lid, resulting in a slightly forgettable look.
This, as you might expect after looking at the size of the screen, isn’t a very portable laptop – for portability, Toshiba’s own R840-10Z is a much better option. It weighs almost 3 kg and is unlikely to fit into many backpacks. The C670D-110 is better suited to stationary, indoor use.
It’s hard to knock a laptop that is so affordable and doesn’t really have anything spectacularly wrong with it, but the Toshiba Satellite 670D is not much more than a solid option for a budget family laptop. You’ll be able to watch DVDs on it and do everyday admin and browsing, but gaming and multimedia editing are pretty much out.

The Toshiba Satellite C670D is a 17 inch laptop that, while lacking in portability, is still a solid device for anyone looking for a desktop replacement option.
You hardly ever see new 17 inch laptops get released, which is a shame – as the Toshiba Satellite C670D proves, videos are a lot more enjoyable on a decent-sized display, and maneuvring around multiple documents is made easier when you’ve got more space to work with.
