"Titanium Antivirus Plus ... doesn’t interfere too much with your everyday computing"
Matthias Scherer
Users who prefer to install antivirus software and then only ever deal with it again if a problem flares up (as opposed to micromanaging malware threats) will be satisfied with the Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus Plus 2011software. Installation is quick, and its super-simple, minimal interface and cloud-based detection make sure users can have peace of mind without obsessing over security.
What we like most
We like our installations to be pain-free and quick, which means that the Titanium Antivirus Plus 2011is exactly our kind of thing. The installing process takes about a minute, and there is minimal faffing about in terms of registration details.
Once installed, you’ll know whether your computer is protected by looking whether the huge green tick icon is there, and there are only three major buttons (for scanning, settings and statistics).
One interesting feature is the “clouded” behavioural detection, which means that Antivirus Plus will take up less of your memory and generally interfere less with your other applications. The most important security functions are there – you can schedule scans, your firewall is optimised, and there are parental controls available.
Its Smart Protection Networks prides itself on blocking malware before they can reach your PC, a target it generally achieves with good results.
What we like least
While Trend Micro’s Titanium Antivirus Plus does a good job detecting and blocking malware before it reaches your computer, there is still the possibility that some viruses might go unnoticed – and if they do, their removal from your computer can be a hassle, since the software’s main virus removal tool is web-based.
There is no protection from malware wreaking havoc with your installed applications, either – unlike the software’s bigger brother, the Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2011.
Users will be well-protected by the Titanium Antivirus Plus in most cases, and its user-friendly interface, as well as the fact that it doesn’t interfere too much with your everyday computing, make it an attractive option. We’re also grateful for the automatic updates. Nevertheless, there are a fair few gaps in its protection, so it might be worth plumping for the slightly pricier Titanium Maximum Security 2011.
