"The arrival of Trend Micro as a genuine rival to the traditional ‘big two’ dominance of McAfee and Norton is a welcome breath of fresh air"
John Hillman
Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2011 is a full throtle pc protection software suite that has been specifically designed for households with more than one user. It looks like a pretty robust package, providing a full suite of tools, and some pretty interesting cloud based solutions that we haven’t seen elsewhere.
As Trend Micro’s most comprehensive domestic package it does cost just under £60, which is more than others on the market, yet when you consider that this provides maximum security for up to three different PCs it actually works out at pretty good value.
What we like most
The simplicity of Titanium Maximum Security 2011 starts with the installation; it can be downloaded and installed in under ten minutes without even requiring a restart. Compared to some of the antivirus products I’ve fought with over the years this is no small feat. Simply fill in an email address and run the software, it’s that easy.
Once Titanium Maximum Security 2011 is installed you’ll find a large range of features available to use, including malicious link protection, parental controls and identity guards for shielding credit card numbers and passwords from any unwanted intruders. There is also a feature that allows you to remotely lock files in the event that your laptop or PC is stolen.
We really like the Titanium Maximum Security 2011’s simple-to-use interface. It is really just three windows displaying three fields including security summary, system tuner and parental controls. Most of us just want to download our security software once a year and forget about it, if we do need to engage then it has to be as simple and straightforward as possible and this Titanium Maximum Security 2011 offers in spades.
Like other providers, Trend Micro has taken the threat detection away from the user’s PC and centred it in the Cloud. This has the obvious advantage of reducing the amount of space taken up on your PC and thus combating the cardinal sin of anti-virus software, namely that it slows down your PC to a crawl. Titanium Maximum Security 2011 uses this system to offer a more immediately responsive approach to any newly discovered online threats.
You’ll also find that Titanium Maximum Security 2011 is very good at authenticating Wi-Fi networks and wireless hotspots – good news for those of you on the go.
What we like least
The Titanium Maximum Security 2011 comes with some excellent tools, and we like the way it can protect your credit card online, but this can become a bit tiresome when you have to add every single online retailer you use before you can buy from somewhere. Heavy shoppers might find this a bore.
The arrival of Trend Micro as a genuine rival to the traditional ‘big two’ dominance of McAfee and Norton is a welcome breath of fresh air to the antivirus market. Titanium Maximum Security 2011 is their top-end package and from installation to features to usability it doesn’t disappoint on any level.
