Roxio Creator 2010
Roxio Creator 2010 is the number 1 selling multimedia software suite with over 350 million copies shipped worldwide.
This software lets you burn discs, take HDV videos from camera directly to DVD, capture streaming web video, perform advanced video editing, transform your projects into Hollywood style DVDs and customize your DVD.
Where this program differs from its predecessor is in its new interface and Learning Centre option that host tutorial videos to help new users with the more complex tasks. Roxio BackOnTrack™ 3 Suite Review
What is worst thing that could happen after you’ve spent hours touching up a photo album or editing a movie? It all gets lost when your computer crashes. Well no need to worry because Roxio has got you covered with their BackOnTrack™ 3 Suite.
This suite keeps your files and memories safe from both hardware and software crashes and has a comprehensive disaster recovery application.
The Instant Restore feature protects your PC from failures and the real-time system protection recovers your system in seconds from virus attacks and user mistakes.
Disaster Recovery enables you to back up your entire hard drive including system preferences and applications, to a disc or to an external hard drive. This disc image will then be restored in case of a hardware failure or theft.
File Backup does what it says on the tin, it preserves your important photos, videos financial records and other data to CD or DVD.
This software does offer comprehensive cover for your PC but can be a little hard to navigate if you are not familiar with Roxio programs; a read through an instruction manual will make things easier before you start.
The welcome screen is a tad cluttered and some of the menu labels are unclear but overall it does the job of backing up your precious files and making sure they can be restored.
RecordNow™ Music Lab 10 Premier
RecordNow Music Lab 10 Premier is the software for music lovers and is an easy-to-use toolkit for recording, editing and organising your tunes.
This software allows you to create DVD music discs, collect music from discs, iPods, internet radio and LPs and copy it to disc or portable player; supported file formats include MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, FLAC.
You can rip music from more than one CD at a time and backup your music from your MP3 player or iPod, even if your iPod is not paired with the PC. You can then organize your music with the handy navigation, by titles, artist and album.
One of the best features of this software is that you can give new life to your old tapes and LPs and increase the sound quality with audio cleaning and Sound Editor. You can also create you very own ringtone from your favourite CD or MP3 and even record your own songs.
The advantages of this program are the smart navigation, DVD disc creation with up to 50 hours of music and its music restoration capabilities. What’s more, the set of tools are easy to use, so that both novices and pros and get the most out of the program.

What is available?
Roxio makes a wide range of software packages. For CD and DVD burning and photography there is Roxio Creator™ 2010 and Roxio Creator™ 2010 Pro both of which are great all-in-one packages for music, video and photo.
There is also the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD and the MyDVD® 10 which is an easy-to-use video and photo editing software with widescreen DVD burning capabilities.
Video and DVD playback software include, CinePlayer DVD Decoders, CinePlayer Players and DVDit® 6 which allows you to edit and customise your video work.
For audio management there is the Roxio Easy LP to MP3 and the RecordNow™ Music Lab 10 Premier a program which assists you in making and burning CD’s.
Both the Roxio Creator™ 2010 and Roxio Creator™ 2010 Pro have a backup service but Roxio also have the Roxio BackOnTrack™ 3 Suite and the Roxio BackOnTrack™ 3 which both preserve important files and have a easy-to-use restore assistant.
What accessories does Roxio have?
Roxio not only has the software, it has the accessories to go with it. The Creator™ 2010 High-Def/Blu-ray Disc Plug-In gives users the ability to author Hi-def video content on Blu-ray discs, and the Creator™ 2010 Blu-ray Playback Plug-In for Roxio Creator 2010 lets you playback Blu-ray discs on your PC.
The Roxio Video Capture USB combined with Creator 2010 help preserve your files by transferring them to digital media such as DVD.
Who can use it?
These products are all PC compatible but Roxio also has a line of software designed for Mac users too.
The Toast® 10 Titanium and Toast® 10 Titanium Pro are similar to the Roxio Creator™ 2010 but obviously designed for Macs. There is the Popcorn® 4 which includes Award-winning Toast® burning technology and easy DVD backup in one step.
There is also the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac, Roxio Crunch™ and the CD Spin Doctor® 6 which are software programs designed for music projects incorporated with iTunes. Mac users can also buy a Roxio Video Capture USB for Mac.

Who is Roxio?
Roxio is a division of Sonic Solution and a world leading provider of digital media software which creates easy-to-use products and media services to help people manage and share their digital media.
What do they do?
Roxio specialises in software designed for CV and DVD management, from burning DVD’s to cinema quality playback on your PC.
Roxio distributes software globally and online and is bundled with the software of major machine builders such as Dell and HP.
When did they start?
Roxio began as a digital media company and was created from the spin-off of Adaptec’s Software Products Group in 2001 and the 2002 acquisition of MGI Software.
Roxio began to pursue the area of music downloads and the subscription market and subsequently acquired Pressplay and Napster. To keep the online music service going Roxio was sold to Sonic Solutions in 2003 and the rest of the company renamed Naspter, Inc.
How to burn a DVD with Roxio…
What is DVD burning?
DVD burning is a service that allows you to effectively make your own DVD, whether it is a home video, movie or your favourite series.
What software do I need?
Roxio has two different packages which are ideal for DVD burning. The Roxio Creator 2010 Pro allows you to capture HD content, burn on Blu-ray discs and burn Hi-def on standard DVD’s. The Roxio Creator 2010 lets you burn and copy CD’s and DVD’s, edit movies, rip CD’s and share your creations.
Tell me how to burn a DVD.
With older versions such as Roxio Easy Media Creator you will have to open MyDVD, the burning software, select “Add new movie” from the menu which will take you to your hard drive’s directory. Highlight the files you would like to burn and select “Add”.
Insert a blank DVD into the disc drive and once you have selected the files you want to burn click the “Burn” button.
The newer version of the software, Roxio Creator 2010 have a new “Drag, drop, burn” widget which lets you literally drag the files you want to burn right onto your desktop.
Windows 7 heaven for Roxio products
From January 2010 a massive range of Roxio products will now be compatible with the latest version of Windows.
The software packages Easy VHS to DVD, MyDVD 10 Premier, My DVD Video Lab 10, RecordNow Music Lab 10 Premier, BackOnTrack 3 Suite and CinePlayer amongst others, have been updated.
The Roxio Creator 2010 range, Easy LP to MP3, Burn and CinePlayer BD packages meanwhile have all been designed to be Windows 7 compatible.
Lenovo and Roxio Partnership
The Roxio CinemaNow entertainment platform will now be available on the new Lenovo Skylight smartbook.
Dave Habiger, president and CEO, Sonic Solutions, said collaboration with Lenovo will deliver “convenient, digital access to premium entertainment on new mobile systems.”
Peter Gaucher, executive director, Mobile Internet Product Management, Lenovo said the combination of the smartbook and Roxio means customers can “download and enjoy their favorite movies wherever they go.”
Roxio and Tegra get together
The Roxio CinemaNow entertainment platform is now available on the Next Generation Tegra mobile internet processor, by NVIDIA.
According to Neil Trevett, vice president, mobile content at NVIDIA, “Tegra will enable CinemaNow’s awesome content library whenever and wherever our customers want.”
Mark Ely, executive VP Strategy, Sonic Solutions (Roxio’s parent company) said. “that digitally delivered entertainment is quickly becoming a must-have feature for connected consumer electronic devices.”
CinemaNow 2.0 unveiled at CES
Sonic Solutions the makers of Roxio CinemaNow have unveiled the exciting new specs for the entertainment platform.
The CinemaNow 2.0 allows customers to purchase or rent downloads of movies across a massive range of devices from Blu-ray Disc players to smartphones.
