Serif WebPlus X4
Serif has developed WebPlus X4 to be a significantly upgraded product from the previous WebPlus X2, adding some excellent new features to an already impressive set of web site maker tools.
The programme comes with a range of professionally designed templates, making it possible to either create a new site just by the simple process of click and drag or produce something completely original from the bottom up.
You can make the most of Flash navigation bars and GoogleMaps, whilst importing support technology to produce other creative effects is also made easy.
Working with images, such as image cropping and manipulation, is made simple by the integrated PhotoLab, while video from YouTube can be imported to your site with ease.
Once your site is up you can access and make changes from any Internet connection. You will also receive 18 months free site hosting, with 250MB of Web space and 2GB bandwidth, included in the price of the software.
Serif PhotoPlus X3
Serif’s PhotoPlus X3 is an excellent tool for those of you looking for some good image editing software that’s robust without being hugely complicated.
It comes with lots of useful features that are sufficiently user friendly to appeal to beginners; while more experienced editors will appreciate the scope for advanced editing and optimisation.
The software works really well when it comes to restoring old images, resizing photographs, tidying flaws, adjusting exposure and colour levels, red eye removal and cropping. The Quick Fix Studio feature makes doing all of this relatively straightforward and enjoyable process thanks to its user friendly interface.
Beginners will appreciate the help features which give them access to 25 PhotoPlus X3 online tutorials and an excellent getting started guide.
In terms of ease of use, importing, editing and consumer support this is a good software package that, whilst not carrying the wealth and complexity of features that you will find in Photoshop, it remains a good value entry level image editor.
Serif PagePlus X4
PagePlus is a comprehensive desktop publishing solution that has been providing individuals and small businesses with the tools to create print and web based design since 1991.
Serif’s latest version, PagePlus 4, has been upgraded to provide extensive new productivity and creation tools, such as new Boolean commands on LogoStudio which allow you to develop more intricate and complex shapes.
Also of note are the new integrated Photolab, enhanced drawing tools and direct import of text from files.
The software comes with a really useful Learning Zone, where you can watch video tutorials that will show you how to make the most of each tool and go about creating the perfect design for either print or online publication.
This software is a comprehensive design package that is recommended for its speed, versatility and excellent value for money. If you are looking for an all-in-one desktop publishing solution that doesn’t stretch the budget then this one comes highly recommended.

How to get rid of red-eye with Serif…
What is red eye and how does it happen?
Red eye effect is the name given to the appearance of red pupils in colour photographs. It is caused when a photographic flash is situated very close to the camera lens, as is with most compact cameras, and in low lighting.
When a photo is taken the flash occurs too fast for the pupil to close and so the light is reflected back through it and is captured by the camera. The light bounces off the back of the eye and creates the red colour which is due too the blood in the choroid (which nourishes the back of the eye).
How to prevent it?
If you have a separate flash, try to distance it as far as you can from the lens, or point it at an angle so that the light will not penetrate the pupil directly. Some cameras also come with a red eye reduction setting.
How do I fix it?
If you haven’t managed to prevent the red eye effect then do not panic, you will not look like an evil creature in your wedding photos. Serif has a wide range of photo editing software such as PhotoPlus X3 Digital Studio which can help.
The Makeover Studio gives the option of an “Easy Fix” which will apply corrections automatically or you can exercise your editing power manually using the individual sliders.
