Rosie Khdir reveals Samsung’s latest laptop on the market, the Q series; a range of stylish, powerful and mobile notebooks – perfect machines for business computing.

Samsung has released a new series of notebooks aimed at the mobile business user, the Q530, Q430 and the Q330.

The Q530 is the most powerful of the three, designed to meet the needs of heavy mobile users. It sports a glossy 15.6 inch HD LED display with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and a 16:9 contrast ratio.

It can be powered by either an Intel i3 or i5 processor with a 320Gb, 500Gb or 640Gb hard drive and weighs just 2.39kg.

Next up is the Q430 which comes with the same features as the Q530 but is smaller – it has a 14 inch screen and weighs just 2.09kg. This model is for someone who wants a powerful laptop that is that much more portable.

Last but not least we have the Q330 notebook, the featherweight of the Q Series. It comes with a 13.3 inch HD LED display and weighs 1.97kg, making it the lightest of the three but by no means sacrifices all its power for it.

It comes with an i3 or i5 processor and a hybrid graphics features automatically alternating graphic modes between the Intel HD Graphic card and the nVidia GeForce 310M, saving on power consumption – the battery life is up to seven hours.

Yonghwan Park, senior vice president, Samsung IT Solutions business said:

“We’ve designed the Q Series to offer the most exciting, powerful and stylish mobile computing experience on the market. Each model in the range will maximize mobile productivity through a combination of state-of-the-art features and ergonomic design. The Q series line-up realises the perfect IT experience, delivering both portability and performance without compromise.”

The Q Series is available now for purchase.

Rosie Khdir has a peek at what looks like the smallest VAIO PC yet, the colourful P Series netbook that bridges the gap between a notebook and a smartphone.

Sony has just released another impressive PC from the VAIO collection, the P Series, and we’re guessing the P stands for portable!

This tiny PC weights just over 600g and is literally a pocket laptop. This P Series has a new two-handed operation design for use on optimum use on the go, so whether you are standing or walking you can still send you emails and browse the Web.

It is also the first VAIO notebook from Sony to have built-in GPS and a new Digital Compass, which is perfect for business users who often travel internationally; you’ll never need to ask for directions again with this VAIO in your hand!

It incorporated new VAIO Location Search software which offers a real-time map view without the help of your web browser and once it finds you position it also tells you the weather and local points of interest. It’s like a pocket tourist information centre.

Everything about this model is geared to life on the go right down to its Everywair 3G which gives you high speed connectivity to mobile networks where available.

Another new feature is the built-in accelerometer, which responds to physical movements, for example, if you wanted to flick through an album of photos, just give the PC a little shake and it will flick through.

When the device is turned on its side the screen automatically adjusts so it is readable. It also has an ambient light sensor that dims screen illumination making it ideal for reading, and saving on power.

The new and improved P Series PC’s are available in five colours: black, pink, green, white and orange. They will be available from June 2010.

Tomas Mowlam reports on the new Dell offering for its business customers, the Latitude 13; it is just 20mm thin, weighs just 1.52kg and is virtualisation ready.

The slim line, aluminium-clad Dell Latitude 13 is now available for business customers, retailing on Dell’s small – medium business site; the base package starts at £329.

With this model Dell has aimed to produce a light and thin laptop that rivals Apple products for attractive styling.

The case is brushed aluminium both a style and weight saving point. It is just 20mm thin, and weighing only 1.52kg with the six-cell battery, it’s arguably one of the most stylish and attractive laptops around.

To speed up virtualisation the Latitude 13 comes with VMware® and Citrix® technology.

The Latitude comes with a choice of three ultra low voltage Intel processors; the 1.3GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo SU7300 or the 1.4 GHz Intel® Core™2 Solo SU3500, both of which use a 3Mb L2 cache. The Latitude can also be equipped with the 1.3GHz Intel® Celeron 743, which uses a 1Mb L2 cache.

It comes ready prepped with a 32-bit version of Windows 7 Professional, or you can choose Vista with Service Pack 2 or Ubuntu.

Despite being quite a slim and lightweight machine it can pack a surprising 4Gb into a single slot. In terms of storage the Latitude comes with a wide choice of hard drives; up to 250Gb 5400 rpm SATA, up to 320Gb 7200 rpm SATA, or 16Gb or 64Gb Solid State Drive.

The Latitude comes with the 802.11n wireless module and BluetoothTM 2.1 so connectivity won’t be an issue.

As with all ultraportables the thin form factor means space savings must be made; so the Latitude has a very limited 1 USB port and 1 USB 2.0/eSATA combo port.

It does have however a 5-in-1 card reader and 34 mm ExpressCard which makes it a little more flexible.
